Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith’s Marriage: A Rumor and an Apology
In recent years, the marriage of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith has been a topic of interest for many. Even comedian Chris Rock was caught up in the speculation surrounding their relationship, according to Pinkett Smith herself.
Pinkett Smith revealed in a recent interview with People magazine that every summer, reports would surface claiming that she and Will were getting a divorce. And in one particular summer, Chris Rock believed the rumors and reached out to Pinkett Smith.
“He thought that we were getting a divorce. So he called me and basically he was like, ‘I’d love to take you out,’” Pinkett Smith recounted. However, she clarified that the rumors were untrue and simply dismissed them. Rock was appalled by the misunderstanding and profusely apologized for his assumptions.
Representatives for Chris Rock have yet to comment on the matter, according to CNN.
Pinkett Smith writes about this encounter with Rock in her forthcoming memoir, titled “Worthy.” The book is expected to be published on October 17.
This revelation comes shortly after an incident at the 2022 Oscars telecast involving Will Smith and Chris Rock. While presenting an award, Rock made a joke about Pinkett Smith being bald, referencing her battle with alopecia. In response, Will Smith slapped Rock on stage. Pinkett Smith has since clarified that there may have been a misunderstanding between her and Rock regarding the 2016 Oscars incident.
During the 2016 Oscars, Rock was the host, and Pinkett Smith called for a boycott as part of the #OscarsSoWhite movement, after her husband was overlooked for a nomination for his performance in the movie “Concussion.”
Reflecting on the situation, Pinkett Smith now realizes that she may not have been fully aware of the pressure Rock was under at the time. She believes that reaching out to him and expressing her support might have been a more considerate approach.
The pair eventually spoke and apologized to each other after the 2016 incident, according to Pinkett Smith. However, at the 2022 Oscars ceremony, Rock attempted to apologize to her once again, but Pinkett Smith felt that it was not the right time to discuss it.
Pinkett Smith concluded by acknowledging that there may be unresolved issues between Will Smith and Chris Rock from before she entered the picture in the late ’80s. She understood that it was something they needed to address themselves.
While their marriage has faced its fair share of rumors and challenges, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith have shown resilience and commitment to each other. Pinkett Smith’s memoir, “Worthy,” is likely to provide further insight into their journey as a couple.
