Daniel Radcliffe has put an end to the rumors that he will be playing Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In a recent Vanity Fair interview, Radcliffe and his “Merrily We Roll Along” co-stars, Jonathan Groff and Lindsay Mendez, took a lie detector test where he clarified that there is no truth to the speculation.
Fans have long speculated that Radcliffe would be the perfect replacement for Hugh Jackman, who portrayed Wolverine for nearly two decades. Radcliffe’s muscular appearance in the Season 4 finale of “Miracle Workers” earlier this year only fueled the rumors. However, Radcliffe explained that his physical transformation was not for the role of Wolverine but rather due to his own obsession with fitness.
In a previous interview with “The View” last year, Radcliffe dismissed the rumors and stated that there has never been any actual truth to them. He joked that the rumors may persist because Wolverine is a short character, and people occasionally wonder who could play him.
Radcliffe further emphasized his disinterest in portraying Wolverine. In an interview with GQ, he clarified that any headlines claiming he was considering the role were simply press tour rumors. He mentioned that he occasionally gives different answers to questions out of boredom, which only reignites the rumors. Radcliffe expressed his reluctance to commit to a long-term role that he might not be able to love consistently.
While fans won’t see Radcliffe suiting up as Wolverine, Hugh Jackman is set to reprise his role in the upcoming “Deadpool 3” film, slated for release on May 3, 2024. As for Radcliffe, he will continue to explore diverse and challenging roles, carving his own path in the entertainment industry.
