Rep. Victoria Spartz, R-Ind., has been charged with weapons violation at Washington Dulles Worldwide Airport in Virginia, a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority confirmed to NBC Information on Monday.
The spokesperson, who mentioned the congresswoman was charged on Friday, cited a section of Virginia state law tied to the damaging use of firearms or different weapons, which makes it a criminal offense to “possess or transport” a gun or quite a lot of different harmful weapons “into any air service airport terminal.” The statute classifies the violation as a misdemeanor.

Spartz, who’s the primary Ukrainian-born immigrant to serve in Congress, is in search of re-election in Indiana’s fifth Congressional District, which incorporates suburbs north of Indianapolis and is rated solidly Republican by the nonpartisan Prepare dinner Political Report. She won her primary in Could, defeating a challenger who took aim at her support of Ukraine aid and different points.
Spartz is just not the primary lawmaker lately to face a violation tied to possessing a weapon at an airport.
Then-Rep. Madison Cawthorn, R-N.C., was cited in 2022 for having a loaded handgun at a safety checkpoint at an airport in his residence state. He had been stopped twice with a firearm at an airport throughout his two years in workplace. Cawthorn misplaced his main in 2022.
