U.S. awards Moderna $176 million to produce bird flu vaccine

The U.S. authorities has awarded $176 million to Moderna to advance improvement of its chook flu vaccine, the corporate stated on Tuesday, as issues rise over a multi-state outbreak of H5N1 virus in dairy cows and infections of three dairy employees since March.

The funds from the U.S. Biomedical Superior Analysis and Growth Authority shall be used to finish late-stage improvement and testing of a pre-pandemic mRNA-based vaccine towards H5N1 avian influenza, the corporate stated in an announcement.
